ASE Malaysia hosts semiconductor study group led by YB Liew Chin Tong, Deputy Minister Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI)

ASE had the privilege to host a study tour in collaboration with REFSA on 12th August 2024. The tour group consists of major GLICs namely Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), Khazanah Nasional Berhad (KNB), Kumpulan Wang Simpanan Pekerja KWSP (EPF), Kumpulan Wang Persaraan, (KWAP), Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) (PETRONAS), Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera (LTAT), Research for Social Advancement (REFSA), Ministry of Finance (MOF).

This initiative supports Malaysia’s National Semiconductor Strategic Plan (NSS) by strengthening Malaysia’s position in the global semiconductor market, enhancing the ecosystem and creating job opportunities.

The event began with the arrival of notable guests led by YB Liew Chin Tong. After formal introductions were concluded, Mr. Kelvin Ho, Senior Director of ASEM, presented the business overview of ASE Malaysia. The discussion highlighted the increasing numbers of companies which are exploring semiconductor production opportunities within South East Asia, and how Malaysia’s existing semiconductor ecosystem can benefit from the opportunities.

The participants also had the opportunity to tour ASEM’s CMOS Image Sensor (CIS) production line, the only site in the ASE group with high volume manufacturing. ASEM’s CIS line is a world class production facility sporting a Class 10 cleanroom environment, 1.75um particle detection technology, and in the near future, a fully automated, AI driven wire bond line.

As the event came to a close, ASEM’s General Manager, Mr. HE Ooi, proudly presented a plaque of appreciation to YB Liew Chin Tong. ASEM was honored to host the study group and we look forward to such events that contribute to Malaysia’s semiconductor growth and success.
