The Rise of AI and its Impact on Talent and Human Resource Management

On 29th May 2024, Mr. Kelvin Ho was cordially invited to give a presentation at the SEA SEMICON, Semiconductor Regional HR Forum to professionals in the similar field. “Today, we are standing on the precipice of an evolutionary shift – Artificial Intelligence” said Kelvin.

As AI is integrated into operational functions of a corporation, the positive impact that AI can bring to an organization and specifically talent requirements of engineering corporations and applications in HR functions is evident.

As machine learning exponentially improves, the next generation must overcome this challenge and come to terms with upskilling, and presenting an opportunity to corporations to use these skills effectively. With the evolution of jobs, we see a shift in educational requirements from a pure skillset to a hybrid skillset combining engineering knowledge and IT skills to accommodate the diversification of jobs branching out to non-traditional paths.

AI technology, like chatbots, improves the productivity of recruiters by automating repetitive tasks and optimizing workflows. While we are aware of the positive impact from AI technology in recruitment, we must continue to be vigilant of the risks. A key area is algorithm biasing, from gender and race, to physical attributes. Corporations have the ethical responsibility to ensure that hiring requirements are open and fair.

Kelvin ended his speech with this key note: “We cannot deny the potential of AI to revolutionize our lives, in countless positive ways from our daily lives, to sustainable solutions that help our world. This potential is limited only by our imagination.
